LEARN THUT TI LETHWEI
The Thut Ti Lethwei Global curriculum is designed to provide the knowledge, technical, tactical, strategic, and cultural foundations of Thut Ti Lethwei. The curriculum includes three student grade levels that offer a systematic approach to developing the fundamental Thut Ti Lethwei Global competencies necessary to establish proficiency in Thut Ti Lethwei. To achieve the Thut Ti Lethwei proficiency, students may receive instruction from a certified Thut Ti Lethwei Global instructor one-on-one, in classes, or through a combination of the two. Learning opportunities are available in-person as well as virtually through online-based instruction. Thut Ti Lethwei Global students will also have the opportunity to supplement their personal training by attending seminars and workshops offered through Thut Ti Lethwei Global and affiliated instructors, schools, and clubs.
The Kha Zi is traditionally a small folded longyi (sarong) or simply a triangular piece of cloth that is worn around the fighter’s waist. It covers the area of the fighter’s body that is prohibited from being hit (the groin). The color of the Kha Zi may represent the fighter’s village or tribe, or it may be used to simply distinguish the fighters from each other. As an example, the fighter from red corner would tie a red “Kha Zi” while the fighter from the blue corner would tie a blue “Kha Zi” prior to their fight. Thut Ti Lethwei Global uses different color Kha Zi to represent the four student levels and four instructor levels.
For students who have completed the student training program and wish to move beyond the student role, Thut Ti Lethwei Global offers the Instructor Certification. The Thut Ti Lethwei Global Instructor Certification Program begins with the Instructor Candidate grade level. Once a student has successfully completed the Thut Ti Lethwei Global Student Grade Level 3 competencies, and has received their instructor’s recommendation, the student can be admitted to the Instructor Certification Program as an Instructor Candidate. A certified Thut Ti Lethwei Global Instructor serves as the candidate’s mentor assisting the Instructor Candidate throughout the training period. During Instructor Candidate training the student will acquire additional knowledge and skill competencies as well as complete a period of student teaching under the guidance of their mentoring Certified Thut Ti Lethwei Global Instructor. The mentorship may be completed through in-person and/or virtually.
